Losing sucks, doesn’t it? Who doesn’t love winning? Everyone loves a good story about a winner who defied all odds. Have you ever noticed that the heroes in movies always hit rock bottom before they rise up above it all? There is more truth to that observation than you may ever know.
Take Winston Churchill, for example. He is known for his outstanding leadership of Great Britain during WWII. Have you heard about his monumental failure in WWI? As the secretary of the British Navy in WWI, he made a decision to attack the Turkish coast with about a million men (after being advised not to) and lost half of them. He pretty much single-handedly humiliated the UK and lost his position in the cabinet as a result.
Of course, history dictates that this was only a temporary setback, but C’mon! If a guy – responsible for the deaths of 500,000 people, scarring hundreds of thousands of survivors, and embarrassing an entire country – can become the leader of that same country years later… then, why is failure so frightening? It’s not failure alone that defines people, but how they respond to that failure. In the words of Churchill himself, “it is the courage to continue that counts.”
How do you handle your failures? They say 98% of marketers fail online…the big resounding question of course is not “WHY did they try,” but “WHY did they quit!?!?”
If there is one thing I have learned through my explorations, is that there are many reasons people fail. The list can be very numerous. These reasons are nothing more than excuses we use to justify giving up on ourselves. We tend to dodge the real reality at hand and deny taking any sort of responsibility for our actions or in-actions. The reasons people succeed are far fewer. The recipe may be slightly different for each individual, but they all shared one thing in common: they were hungry.
I have been marketing now since 2009. Through that time, I have learned a lot of what not to do online. I’ve been burned a few times, but through it all, I have also learned from my mistakes and figured out the keys to success. See, as long as you promote for other people, you will never get ahead. You are in effect, still working for someone else, making them money while you are labeled a failure. What you need to do is work for yourself.
It all starts with a dream – a vision. Next, you need to set definitive goals and cultivate the insatiable desire to meet your goals, whatever they may be. Once you have established a baseline want and need to succeed, your specific plan of action will come to you with ever-increasing crystal clarity. The next step is simply to take massive action and implement that plan.
Voila, that is it!
