Why You Should Be Targeting Big Ticket Sales

When you came online to make money, you were probably told a lot of things from the gurus about what you need to do to become a six figure marketer. That is generally where the bar is set initially – to reach $10k a month. They tell you it is much easier to sell inexpensive stuff to people, so you get conditioned into believing that is the proper course of action. I am about to turn some of the top myths upside down. But first, let’s discuss what big ticket sales are.

What Are Big Ticket Sales?

The actual definition of a big ticket sale is very subjective, but I consider it high ticket if the commission is anything over $100-$200 (depending on the niche). Some of the real big ticket sales can rake in a cool $1,000 to $10,000 commission per sale! The quality and value of a high ticket item is far more substantial than what you will find in a $10 ebook you can buy off the Warrior Forum. So let me pose the question: why settle for selling low quality ebooks when you can sell high ticket products for far more?

From the sale of one product!

You see it all the time on the Warrior Forum – newbie marketers competing to sell a $9.97 ebook on some “high-power” marketing strategy. Let’s say you make 100% commission on the front-end sale. Fantastic – you get about $10 for each sale you make. If you can scale your advertising, you just might make $100 a month (assuming you can generate 10 sales)!

If you were targeting high ticket items, you would pay a similar price for the advertising, while making substantially more. Let’s be conservative and say you are selling a $200 product with a commission of $100 per sale. The same 10 sales would produce $1000! If you attempted to sell products with a $1000 commission, you would earn a cool $10,000 in a month! Math may produce an internal groan when people ask you to do it on-demand, but we affiliate marketers LOVE MATH, especially when it pertains to increasing conversions, figuring out EPC’s, and adding up commissions earned weekly – and you will too!

Common Big Ticket Sales Myths

As I alluded to in the beginning of this article, I wanted to debunk some myths you may be operating under. Hopefully you will see a theme here.

Myth #1: List building with free stuff is the best way to build a huge, profitable list!

First off, I assume if you are into affiliate marketing, you are building a list. If not, you need to start TODAY! Sign up on the form to the right to get my recommended resources! A lot of people are told to give away a bunch of stuff to entice people to join your list. This is both true and false! You need what we call a “lead magnet” to get people onto your list. This a free report with valuable information. The lead magnet should address a problem and offer a solution. The hook is to prime your subscribers for the future. continuing to giveaway free stuff will not cultivate a profitable list. If you rarely sell them anything, they will NEVER buy from you. The truth about this myth, is you CAN build a HUGE list with freebies…but then again, what’s the point?

Myth #2: It is much harder to sell high ticket items than low ticket stuff.

This is another area where it is true and false, depending on perspective. The limitations of some people do not necessarily apply to everyone. Of course you can’t sell a mansion to someone onhigh ticket items food stamps! You also can’t sell e-Cigs to non-smokers or senior solutions (scooter chairs, hearing aids, medicaid, etc.) to millennials. It’s not a matter of difficulty, it’s a matter of targeting! Your job as an affiliate marketer is not to persuade anyone to do anything! Your job is to find creative ways of connecting people with problems to their solutions. You are no greasy, used car salesman! You are more like the drummer in a band. People only really notice you if you really suck!

Myth #3: People just aren’t spending money right now.

You have lived your entire life with a scarcity mindset. Money is extremely limited everywhere around you, the economy is in the dumps, and you live paycheck to paycheck. Believe it or not, this is not the case for everyone! Some people have acquired wealth that allows them to view money as an abundant, fluid resource – as abundant as water. They may think, talk, and act differently than you, but they are out there in the millions! These people are looking to drop thousands on solutions if they feel it may solve one or more of their problems.

The Anatomy of a Cheapskate

We have established that abundance is out there, ripe for the taking. Yet still, many marketers are unable or unwilling to see the forest for the trees. There are many reasons some 95% of marketers fail to make an income online. The biggest one I have found, is most are unwilling tohow to make $1000 make a true investment in themselves. Freebie seekers are the most abundant demographic of biz opp seekers for some reason (because making money from nothing should be super easy, apparently).

There is nothing wrong with struggling to pay bills and trying to feed a family of 8. I get it! But why do the majority of marketers insist on targeting this demographic? You will only attract broke people who get annoyed with you when you try to sell stuff to them because they can’t afford much. If you take a closer look, it is a losing battle. You can spend all your money and time trying to convert these people into a more abundant mindset – or you can focus on big ticket sales and save yourself the money, time, and stress!

Why Do Successful Marketers Sell $10 eBooks?

If big ticket sales truly determine the difference between a makeshift/non-existent income and a six-seven figure income, then why do we see cheap products sold at all? Above, we debunked three common myths about selling expensive stuff. I just wanted to take it a step further and explain why the successful marketers create $7-$47 products. This tidbit of information could generate a paradigm shift for you as it did for me!

list buildingWhy do the successful marketers even sell cheap products under $50 in the first place? I am gonna tell you the real secret here: it’s not because of the massive profits they’ll receive from the $10 commissions (which they will give to you), but because they want you to build their list for them! By buying one $10 product, that lead has been qualified as a “buyer.”

Buyers are MUCH more likely to buy from someone again if the value was delivered – especially if the marketer has branded him/herself well. They aren’t just building a list of people, but a list of people that have invested in them already! They gave you the full $10 commission (which the lead you generated paid), but they will continue to escalate the offers they present to their leads with one-time offers (OTO’s) while the buyer is still considered “hot.” You may or may not be given a percentage of this commission. In effect, you have spent the time and money on the traffic (which is essentially free for them), and they get to sit back and focus on conversions.

Big Ticket Sales Conclusion

I hope you can see the difference between the average marketer targeting the freebie seeker and the successful marketer selling the $27 product. It’s much more lucrative to start with a lead that has already invested in your expertise than it is to sell them on someone else’s dream. In any case, selling big ticket items will gain you much more ground towards your financial goals than trying to sell a higher quantity of products that serve a lower purpose.

I am extremely passionate about affiliate marketing and after making a few big ticket sales high ticket commissionsmyself, I became obsessed. My very first sale on Clickbank was a $90 commission for a product called “Traffic Ultimatum,” back in 2010. I have learned that simplicity is just as important as action itself. There are so many ways to get from point A to point B. Marketing high ticket items to the affluent will get you to six figures much faster than selling $10 WSO’s to people who are fighting to make a dime.

If you have a guilty feeling about taking people’s money, then selling high ticket items should actually help you sleep better at night! Big ticket sales will not only help your financial situation, but will provide your list/buyers with products with high quality that will enrich their lives long after the actual transaction is made.
