In this world, there are three types of people: those who succeed; those who continue to try and keep hitting a wall, and those who quit and make excuses. Success can only happen once you stop making excuses. That is why I vowed to stop making excuses when I joined the Internet Lifestyle Network.

What Are Excuses?

What are excuses and why are they so fatal to fulfilling your dreams? If your dreams were a balloon, then excuses would be like a needle that pops that balloon. Excuses are nothing more than reasons to justify your shortcomings. Fact of the matter is, everyone has this nasty little thing called circumstance that seems to follow them around like a little black cloud. If you focus on the curveballs life throws at you everyday, then you will never make it to home plate.

One factor that is so crucial to success is focus. Excuses take away from that focus. Have you ever noticed that when you go to a crowded area and you are trying to make your way to a specific area, it is a lot easier to reach that area if you focus on walking towards it? If you take your eyes off that area and look around you, it is a lot easier to get lost and never reach your goal. Excuses are distractions that take away motivation.

There is a reason leaders in our industry host a “No Excuses Summit” every year. That is because all leaders have a no excuses view on business and life in general. Either you want something and go after it, or you don’t do it. Do or die, there is no try. Look at all the things you have ever accomplished. Did you let factors like: lack of money, family/friend’s thoughts, lack of time, lack of internet, get in the way? If you truly want something, excuses will not stop you.

What Excuses Are You Making?

Let me make it easier for you by providing solutions to each circumstance you might face (some of them I have faced first hand).

Lack of money – Start off with strategies that are free. If money is lacking, leverage your time to make a little money you can put back into your business and scale up from there. If you need some strategies or means of making a little, just ask! I know plenty of ways around this!

Family and/or friend’s skepticism – Boy do I have experience with this topic! Are your dreams worth anything to you or your loved ones? If you are passionate about starting a business, then sit down and have a frank conversation with your loved ones. Explain your reasons and be sincere! If they truly love you and are supportive, chances are they will let you give it a shot. When they do, make it count!

Lack of time – In this industry, there are two forms of currency: money and time. Generally you will have to start out with one or the other. If you don’t have time, you can outsource most of the work to others that have the time and put the pieces together. If you don’t have time or money, you will have to identify ways you can start quickly and reap some money so you can outsource tasks to make more quickly. Don’t panic, there are ways of doing this!

Lack of Internet connection – I once knew an older lady that would go to the library every single day to check her email because she emailed her son every day. She didn’t have a computer at home. The library provided free internet and she could use it for an hour every day. Internet cafes and coffee shops often have free internet connection or Wi-Fi so you can use the internet and run a business on a shoestring budget.

The point I am trying to make is where there’s a will, there’s a way. The real question is, how badly do you want it? If you are not willing to do WHATEVER IT TAKES, then you will not succeed. PERIOD. When you take action without excuses, something magical happens. Barriers seem to melt away and you start seeing your efforts bearing fruits far juicier than ever before.

As Kenneth Blanchard once said, “there is a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when it’s convenient. When you’re committed to something you accept no excuses; only results.”

Next time you feel frozen in place because you feel like you can’t do something, just remember someone out there worse off than you is doing it while you procrastinate. Nobody cares about your excuses. Nobody pities you for procrastinating. Nobody is going to coddle you for being lazy. It’s your ass – you move it!
